various urban conditions populated this site in kagurazaka, reflecting strongly the urban conditions seen throughout tokyo. these elements are strongly artificial and manufactured creating an intensely synthetic environment. Although the composition of space in tandem with the relaxed organisation of objects from residents can create compositions closely resembling those of an “urban forest” the stark contrast to green spaces remain. The distinct change in condition when meeting the empty plot ignites the need for more greenery

DESIGN INTERVENTION: KAGURAZAKA presents a solution to an ever growing problem in Toyko’s dense urban environment, where an increasing amount of homes are demolished with no future of reconstruction due to the tightly knit urban fabric. These demolished spaces over time become reclaimed by wildness and nature, an element often restricted and tightly controlled throughout Tokyo’s urban space. This proposed solution seeks to further push towards the reclamation of land by nature and wildness, and adopting these spaces to bring value to its surrounding communities. Whilst this solution remains exclusive to Kagurazaka, the encompassing model is “a design” to be transformed throughout Tokyo.
